At the Newberry in March, 2019: Gogol’s Dead Souls

I invite you to join us at the Newberry in March to read and discuss Dead Souls (1842), Gogol’s unfinished, comic masterpiece about a con man and his adventures in provincial Russia. The seminar will meet for five weeks on Saturday mornings from 10:00 am to noon, starting on March 9, 2019. During our meetings, we will focus on close textual analysis of novel, supplemented by biographical, historical, and critical information related to the writings that I will present at each meeting. During the sessions, short episodes (not longer than 10 – 15 minutes each) will be shown from the Russian film adaptation of Dead Souls (Shveitser, 1984) with English subtitles.

Early registration opens January 8, 2019 and ends on January 25, 2019. A discount of 10% is available during the early registration period. Registration takes place on the Newberry’s website. (I will post the link when it becomes available. For more information on the Newberry’s registration policies, click here.)
